The "Mistress of All Evil" looks terrifyingly awesome.

New trailer alert: Angelina Jolie in 'Maleficent'

When I was little, Sleeping Beauty scared the living daylights out of me. I was positively terrified of Maleficent, and I had nightmares for weeks after seeing the film. Of all the Disney villains, for me, Maleficent was the scariest. So, when word got out that a live-action movie based on the sorceress' story was being made, I was instantly intrigued. When Angelina Jolie was cast, I was even more eager to find out more.

Maleficent isn't set to come out until May of next year, but we've finally got a trailer for the film. Granted, it's a teaser trailer, so it doesn't tell us too much - but it's sure enough for me to become even more excited about this film. Here you go (and honestly, this does look a bit too frightening for some youngsters, so parents, watch it first and then decide for yourself):

Disney's Maleficent Official Teaser Trailer

As I said, the trailer doesn't reveal a lot about the plot. We hear Elle Fanning, as Princess Aurora, telling Maleficent she's aware that she's been "watching over" her since she was born. It all seems so sweet, and harmless, until you see those horns. Then you see those eyes. And then, at long last, we see Maleficent, if only for a few (too short) moments.

I'll say one thing: Angelina Jolie absolutely nails the creepy Maleficent voice. It's smooth, bold and certainly distinct. This is a woman who's large and in charge, about to destroy sweet Princess Aurora's entire world. Jolie gets it. And apparently, Maleficent was also her favorite character, because during the Disney D23 convention she said, "I was terrified of her, but I was also drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her. She had this elegance and grace, yet she was wonderfully, deliciously cruel."

That sums Maleficent up nicely, don't you think? I also really like the (again, too short) moments when we see the Mistress of All Evil creating that forest of thorns. Poor Prince Phillip. He's in for a rough time with this woman. This movie looks dark and spooky - in other words, perfect.

I'd love to hear what you guys think of this first Maleficent teaser trailer. Like it? Hate it? Feel free to comment!
