Worried about 'Breaking Bad' withdrawals?

Breaking Bad fans, take heart: Although the AMC drama is ending a remarkable five-year run later this year, all is not lost. Series creator Vince Gilligan is already talking about a possible spinoff show. And yes, while spinoffs aren't always the best idea where great TV shows are concerned, this one might be fantastic (or not, but I'm trying to have a glass half full kind-of-day).

When the news began circulating that a Breaking Bad spinoff with Saul Goodman, everyone's favorite smarmy TV lawyer, was very much in the works, it shouldn't have surprised anyone. Why? Because just last July, Vince Gilligan said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he would definitely "love to see a Saul Goodman spin-off show when it's all said and done." What Vince Gilligan wants at this point, Vince Gilligan gets.

OK, fans: What say you? Do you think a Breaking Bad spinoff show featuring Saul Goodman (the brilliant Bob Odenkirk) is a good idea? I think it might work, in part because Saul is a supporting character on Breaking Bad - not a lead. I'd love to see his character developed in a series of his very own.

Unlike some who want to see Saul's show set well in the future, long after the events of the Breaking Bad finale have ended, I say go for a prequel of sorts. Let's see what happens earlier in Saul's life, before he gets involved with Walter White and the BB characters. Oh, and please, please do not try to make Saul a good guy. His unscrupulousness is what makes him fascinating. Not all TV characters need redeeming characteristics!

For his part, Bob Odenkirk is apparently very on board with the spinoff idea, telling Vulture that he and Vince Gilligan have discussed the possibilities, and adding, "I've certainly told him that if there was some way to see more of Saul then I would be happy to do it." And we'd be happy too, sir. Vulture even goes so far as to name the (as yet not in production) spinoff Better Call Saul. Perfect, don't you think?
