"Instant on" can be disabled

Xbox One will offer new power-saving features

Microsoft has responded to criticism of the Xbox One's crazy power consumption by offering a new powersaving mode as an option for new customers.

The Xbox One has a convenient "instant on" feature which means that it loads up faster when you turn it on. However, it accomplishes this by being partially on all the time, even when it is seemingly off. In other words, the Xbox One never turns off - it just goes to sleep. And while it's asleep, it is consuming tons of expensive electricity.

The Natural Resources Defense Council leveled harsh criticism at the Xbox One and Playstation 4 for this feature. Sony has yet to respond regarding the Playstation 4.
