Transcending borders around the globe
The time has come. You bought your ticket, you packed your bag and now your plan is about to touch ground on foreign lands you've only dreamed of. Though you've traveled before, this destination is a place you've never seen. You've dreamed of the landscape and the people for months, and you are excited to see if it meets your expectations.
Though traveling is about broadening your horizons, often times you end up realizing how similar many places are, even if they are geographically isolated by miles. One thing is for sure though: Much like there are similarities in the western world, there are a few sights you are bound to see when traveling in the developing world, regardless of the nation. Here are some things you will encounter when leaving the comfort of the west.
Out-of-control buses: If you are in the developing world, you are going to see some insane buses. While the reasoning behind the insanity can change from bus to bus, it usually has to do with the number of people squeezed on the bus, the amount of light and noise exuding from the bus, or the intermingling of luggage, people and livestock. Keep your eyes peeled for people hanging off of roofs and music blaring when looking at the local transport.
Farm Animals: Sure, you traveled to this new destination to encounter exotic wildlife, but be prepared, you are going to see farm animals. Chickens, cows, goats and other standard animals are part of the livelihood in developing countries, and these animals seem to roam free on the streets. Be prepared to be stopped by a herd of cows deciding to block the road.
Domestic pets in your food: While this hopefully isn't a literal occurrence, domestic pets like cats and dogs roam free throughout restaurants in the developing world. If you don’t want to have a cat cuddling your leg while a dog rests his head in your lap as you eat, maybe you should pay extra for the western restaurant down the street...
Enjoy exploring the world outside of the west!
