Break out the basket and plan your picnic with these iPhone apps.

Picnic apps for iPhone

I've mentioned picnics a couple of times lately as a way to celebrate holidays. Obviously, it's one of my favorite ways to make any day special. I still have fond memories of my two younger brothers and me packing our favorite snacks into a basket and heading behind our house into the woods for a picnic. Don't worry, we didn't go too far. If you'd like to go on a picnic of your own and need some ideas, try these iPhone apps for picnic inspiration.

uPackingList: For those with a tendency to over-plan, this is the perfect app. You can keep a running checklist of everything you're going to need for your picnic. There are already built-in lists, but you can customize your own picnic list if you'd like. This app isn't limited to just picnics. You can also use it for packing for a beach trip, vacation, business trip and the like. Get it for $1.99 for iOS.

Picnic Recipes: I've never been an elaborate picnicker, but I can see the appeal of creating romantic or gourmet meals to enjoy outdoors. If you'd like to cook up something new to put in your picnic basket, give this app a try. It has over 5,000 recipes for summertime barbecues, picnics and gatherings. It is $1.99 in the App Store.

101 Camping and Outdoor Recipes: Campfire cooking is a blast when you're sitting around with friends and family. Alright, it's not exactly picnicking, but if you plan to take a small grill along on your picnic to prepare the food there, take some of these recipes out for a spin. The app has 101 recipes like Antiguan Charcoal Baked Bananas, Blazing Trail Mix, Camper's Stew, Baked Stuffed Fish and Spaghetti Carbonara. There's something for every taste. It only costs $0.99 in iTunes.
