Law enforcement iPhone apps
My husband works in law enforcement. Like me, he has an iPhone. Unlike me, you can count the non-native apps on his phone on one hand. You'd need about seven pairs of hands to count mine. Despite the fact that I've found several apps for law enforcement that would be useful in the field, he's more of a pen and paper kind of guy. Since I've already done the legwork, I hope some LEOs out there will find these apps useful. Download, enjoy and stay safe out there.
ShiftLife Organizer: This is one of the few apps my husband does use. In fact, I use it too. Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) are notorious for working odd shifts. The patrol division for my husband's agency, for example, works two days on, two off, three days on, two off, two on, three off. Then it repeats. You can see how it gets tricky planning family events, vacations and appointments around that kind of schedule. At the beginning of each year, we plug his schedule in for the entire year. It helps me plan our family's activities, and it helps him tell people when he'll be back on duty, in court, etc. The app has a free version and a full version for $3.99
Police Logger Plus: This app is designed to help LEOs quickly log events and make notes. You can email your log, assign case numbers and input addresses as needed. It has an extensive list of activities like Dispatch, On Scene, Suspect in Custody, Medical Needed, Domestic, Speeding Vehicle and more. It logs the date and exact time of each different activity. This app is $0.99 in iTunes.
DUI Warning and Test Instructions: This app is from the same makers as Police Logger Plus, and provides the LEO with the Implied Consent Warning Card and the three standardized Field Sobriety Test instructions (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand). It is also $0.99 from the iTunes store.
If you're in law enforcement, what are your must-have apps in the field? Share them in the comments.
