All joking aside, these are useful apps to have in case of an emergency. Remember to keep your cell phones charged as much as possible. You never know when the electricity may go out, and if you're one of the millions who no longer uses a landline, you'd be out of luck. Here are three FREE must-have Android apps for emergencies.

GotoAID First Aid: I like this app because it has first aid tips not only for people, but for cats and dogs, too. The app gives you step-by-step instructions to treat the most common injuries and first aid emergencies. GotoAID covers more than 400 topics and has a nice overview for disaster preparedness including what to do before, during and after a disaster like a flood, landslide or hurricane. First aid topics include everything from bee stings to cardiac arrest. Get it in Google Play for your Android device.

Scanner Radio: Who knows what's going on during an emergency more than the first responders? Scanner Radio provides live audio from more than 4,000 police and fire scanners and weather stations. Find the scanners that are closest to you, and get alerts when a lot of people are listening to a particular scanner which can indicate that something serious is happening. Scanner Radio can be found on Google Play for your Android device.

Social Alert: In an emergency, it's important for first responders to know exactly where you are. With the tap of a button, the app will send out a message to your friends and family in case of an emergency like a natural disaster, fire or a crime. The app integrates with Facebook and Twitter and will send a message with your exact location so you can be found quickly. You can also send a text to anyone in your contacts.
