We’ll call it the quarterback shuffle

With basketball coming to playoff season and baseball beginning its start to the regular season, football was feeling a little left out of the limelight. With that being said, two teams decided to make some off season noise. Both those teams are located in Northern California.

This week, the Oakland Raiders have begun to address their dismal quarterback situation. After attempting (and failing) a big gamble by offering up a plethora of draft picks for Carson Palmer, the Raiders have now made a move on quarterback Matt Flynn. Flynn, previously of the Seattle Seahawks, was acquired on Monday for a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional pick in 2015.

Flynn was brought into Seattle from Green Bay, where he was thought to make a run at the starting position. This past season, though, he was beat out by Rookie Russell Wilson. Flynn has only had two starts in his five seasons in the league  but has given coaches a good look at the player he can be. Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie spent time with Flynn in Green Bay and said that, “I believe Matt has that potential, but I also know hasn't had enough experience. We’re going to let him compete and battle, and see what happens." The Raiders are currently in dire straights at the QB position, having finished 4-11 last year with Carson Palmer in the driver’s seat.

Along with bringing in Flynn, the Raiders are currently in talks with the Arizona Cardinals to ship off Carson Palmer. While no word on the deal has come up, sources believe the Raiders will not receive much in the form of compensation for the aging quarterback. On a lighter note, the San Francisco 49ers acquired former UT standout Colt McCoy from the Cleveland Browns. While the 49ers are set at the starting position, McCoy will come in as a back up.
