Venture Bros: Watch the extended Season 5 trailer

It's hard sometimes not to be aggravated by the long delays between Venture Bros releases. But then the new thing comes out, and it's amazing, and I forgive them all of their delays because who could begrudge Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer a little extra time to make things so incredible?

That's exactly how I'm feeling about this five-minute extended trailer, which Adult Swim released last night in order to announce the premiere of Venture Brothers Season 5. The new season will start on May 19.

One of the biggest things that I noticed was the apparent continued role of Brock Samson as a secondary character. Not to make mountains out of a five-minute molehill, but in this trailer Brock appears several times, but only during action sequences, and never with the Ventures. It seems that he is probably continuing his career with S.P.H.I.N.X. (S.P.H.I.N.X.!)

I have finally made peace with Brock's absence. I am feeling a lot more positive towards Sgt. Hatred after recently rewatching the entire fourth season at once. As much as Brock was a better father to the boys than Rusty, Sgt. Hatred is a better father figure than Brock.

Speaking of Sgt. Hatred, he is sporting a pretty sizeable pair of breasts in most of the trailer. Could this be a side effect of his chemical castration? A science experiment gone awry? An homage to Fight Club? Or all three? Only time will tell.

It's hard to say where the Halloween special fits into the chronology of the fifth season. Watching the trailer, I wonder if it wasn't aired out of order. Or maybe Dean just decided to stick with the darker hair color. Other features of the video include Pete White as a winged centaur, the mechanical owl from Clash of the Titans, Captain Sunshine and Hank in a Shallow Gravy T-shirt.

It all looks pretty great, and I have already marked the date on my calendar. And now, to wait…
