Txtr liberates eBooks from specific devices
One of the issues for people who are big readers but don't want to be tied to a specific device is that they have to buy multiple versions of books for different devices, or that the versions they do buy don't work across devices. It makes sense in a very simple way. I bought an "eBook" so I should be able to read it anywhere, right?
Txtr is an app with a worldwide network of eBook stores and millions of books in their digital library. What makes them stand out is that you can purchase a book from their store for any device, and your purchase is automatically synced with all of your devices.
In other words, if you buy an eBook for your Kindle, it will work on your iPad also.
“The rapid expansion of txtr’s operations bears testimony to the flexibility of the txtr e-reading platform. Our track record in rolling out new local content catalogs as well as localized shopping and reading experiences is unparalleled.”
-- Anne-Sophie Lanier, txtr’s Vice President of Content & eCommerce
That's pretty thick marketing talk, but I think what she means is that they know how to utilize e-reading technology more efficiently than everybody else.
It's clear when you visit their site that they are steeped in online startup culture. The site is well designed and beautiful, very easy to navigate, and you can download their app for free. And when you read deeper it's clear that the people who are building the company do indeed know quite a bit about what they are doing. Not only are they making a good product, but they understand the business of doing business.
But what I like is that the final third of their About Us page gets personal, and even a little mushy:
"At txtr we do not believe digital text is the end of the book, but rather a new beginning. We believe in a world of expansive reading opportunities through digital access to the written word. This new world of digital reading needs to be shaped by people who love books."
This new world of digital reading needs to be shaped by people who love books.
Exactly. Glad to see it happening.
