Two Quirky Romantic Comedies for Sci-Fi Fans

As an avid fan of science fiction, I often watch romantic comedies and think, "You know what this movie needs? Robots." If you've ever thought the same, I've got a couple of excellent rom-coms for you. These movies may not actually have robots in them, but they do have that extra something special that makes them ideal for sci-fi fans.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
When Clementine impulsively decides to have their relationship erased from her memory, a heartbroken Joel signs up for the same procedure... but something goes wrong. Trapped inside his own unconscious mind, he's forced to relive their life together from the first to the last moment, making some important realizations along the way. Featuring stunning performances by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, this isn't just my favorite rom-com; it's one of my favorite films of any kind.

TiMER
Set in a world where people are being implanted with a device which counts down to the moment they meet their “soul mate,” TiMER provides insight into what can happen when our expectations of love go head-to-head with love itself. When Oona meets Mikey, a young man whose timer conflicts with hers, she throws caution to the wind and finds much more than she'd ever planned. While this movie didn't end quite the way I personally had hoped it would (and it's a little heavier on the fiction than the science), it's a refreshingly original story.

Honorable mention: I'm A Cyborg But That's OK.
