Alternatives to the standard Twitter app for your Kindle tablet.

Twitter apps for the Kindle Fire

If you use Twitter a lot and have a Kindle, you may have the standard Twitter app. It works fine, and is actually quite nice looking on the Kindle Fire HD's display. Looks aren't everything, though, and if you want more functionality, give these third party Twitter apps a try. They'll make your tweeting experience from your tablet much easier with their rich features.

TweetCaster: This app works for both Twitter and Facebook, but I've personally only used it for Twitter. In addition to the usual features of Twitter apps (messaging, retweeting, posting updates and sharing photos and videos), you can also mute annoying users, save interesting content to read later using Instapaper and send tweets longer than 140 characters using Twitlonger. I particularly like the SmartFilters function when searching because you can choose to show only tweets with links and video (helpful when researching).

UberSocial: Ubersocial allows you to post your updates to Twitter, Facebook and Gchat. It also allows you to have multiple Twitter accounts which is a nice feature if you have separate profiles for business and personal use. My favorite feature is that you can preview images and articles without actually leaving the app. Although the mobile version is a little friendlier than the tablet version, I'd still recommend it as a solid choice for the Kindle Fire HD.

HootSuite: Finally, you can't talk about Twitter without talking about HootSuite. It's one of the Twitter apps that I use the most (see above) because it's a hub for all my social accounts. It's easy to post content across platforms or to single one out. The ability to schedule tweets is my favorite feature. It's not without its bugs on the Kindle, but it functions well most of the time.
