Culinary delights that scream winter.

Things to eat before winter ends

We're in that portion of winter where everyone starts to check the calendar and look around like, is it going to be spring soon? What do we have, a few more weeks? Sorry folks, it's still 90 days from full-on sunshine daydreams with flowers blooming and barefoot expectations.

But just because we don't have Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Eve to look forward to or enjoy doesn't mean there aren't reasons to enjoy certain culinary delights that scream winter (from underneath some really warm covers, of course).

1. Hot Chocolate

OK, so it's not a food. But it's a timeless treat that has a window of enjoyment. Now is the time you can enjoy it. And I'm not talking about the powder in the packet. I'm talking about the good powder. Or, if you're up for it, hit the market and get some chocolate made for melting and go half and half. And if you're sick of it already, try Mexican hot chocolate for a twist.

2. Kale

You think I'm kidding if you don't eat kale. Why would I be recommending something green and crunchy at the coldest time of year? Because it's deceivingly hearty and it makes you feel awesome when you eat it. Treat it like any other green vegetable and you'll be fine, but check out the recipes. And when you're ready, trade out your popcorn or doritos for kale chips.

3. Fresh Bread

It's not hard to make. Even if you are the kind who is getting frozen pizzas and take out all the time, this is the kind of thing that you can make for yourself. And not only is it great to eat, you'll warm up your house for hours when you do the baking.
