The X-Files return date announced

Yesterday at their annual presentation, FOX Networks announced that The X-Files will officially be returning next January. The show will return as a limited, six-episode series, the first episode of which will air on Sunday, January 24th. The subsequent episodes will air on the next five following Monday nights.

The return of The X-Files seems like a mixed blessing at this point. The show will star David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and will also be produced by Chris Carter, the series' original creator.

Will the show attempt to pretend that it's still the 90s? Or will it be set in contemporary America, and allow its characters to age accordingly? And will it be good enough to herald an exciting return, or will it simply tarnish our wonderful memories of this classic, seminal show?
