Review: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ‘Girl in the Flower Dress’
This time around, the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is off to
As it turns out, some information was leaked that gave the flower dress lady and her allies the location of said fire-wielding guy. The team traces this back to The Rising Tide, thus putting Skye on the spot. So she has to help them find out who’s really behind the whole thing. As it turns out, her ex is the culprit and so Skye sneaks under the team’s radar in order to warn him about the fact that they’re coming for him. But Coulson is smarter than that and she gets caught in the act.
In the meanwhile, flower-dress and some scientists want to turn fire-guy into “Scorch”, a hero/villain. To get this done, they inject him with the ever-problematic Extremis serum. Of course, not all is as it seems and they have other plans for Scorch that not even he knows about. Thus, it’s up to the team to stop them all.
While this episode fell into the “bad guy of the week” format that permeates these types of shows, it did attempt to move the overall plot of the series a little further. We now have a face to go with the “centipede” project and a better idea of what they plan on doing. The characters of team S.H.I.E.L.D. are being better developed and eventually may get the chance to be the focus of their own episodes. And we got our first, real super villain character, complete with his own powers that weren’t caused by Extremis (though they were boosted by the serum).
All-in-all, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t a perfect 10, but it’s much better than most of what’s out there on TV. I’ll keep watching and waiting in the meantime, hoping that by the end of season one we will have a show worthy of moving into season two.
