Pee-Wee comes back, Star Wars goes back and Gotham City might see TV

Media Hijinks - The New, Original, Rebooted and Revisited

The first bit of news for this week revolves around the return of a man that was, for many of us, a childhood icon.  Paul Reubens, aka Pee-Wee Herman, has been working hard to get his character back into the limelight and now it seems as if he has been successful.  A new Pee-Wee movie is ready to go.  They have a script, a director and a pile of money to work with and expect to get filming started sometime next year.  Also, there appear to be some other rumors saying that there will also be a return of the Pee-Wee Herman television show starting next year, though I could find no details on when that might happen or how far along that project is.

Next up, another rumor coming out of the DC/Warner Bros. super hero camp.  They’ve already confirmed the coming of a television show for The Flash and now it looks like GothamCity may get a chance to hit the small screen.  There will be no Batman, unfortunately (he’s too high-money for such things), the idea of the show being that it will occur in Gotham City between the events of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and follow the exploits of the Gotham Police Department.  So the potential for some Batman villains is there (and maybe even a chance for Robin/Nightwing to show up), albeit without the Caped Crusader.  If this is more than a rumor, I am all about it.

Third on the list, a bit of coolness for Star Wars fans.  Dark Horse Comics has gone and taken the original, unedited Star Wars IV script and made it into an eight-issue comic series.  While the majority of the story will be the same as it is in A New Hope, there are a few important changes, such as Luke Skywalker being in the role that Obi Wan was in the movie, Han Solo being an alien and Darth Vader being without his machine parts.  If you want to check out some of the changes and see a trailer for the series, you can head over to this site.

And finally, one for the “to-see” list that doesn’t involve super heroes, big explosions or massive budgets.  It’s the new Spike Jonze flick called Her and it brings together the talents of writer-director Jonze and the acting skills of one of my personal favorites, Joaquin Phoenix.  The movie tells the tale of a writer that happens to fall in love with the A.I. he puts on his computer.  It sounds like not only a great opportunity for some awkward comedy, but also a chance to explore the dynamics of human relationships, the nature of love and perhaps even some questions regarding sentience.  If it sounds interesting to you, you can check it out when it hits the theaters on November 20th.  Or check out the trailer here:
