Media Hijinks - Sequels, Sequels, Sequels!
Welcome back to another installment of Media Hijinks, where I, your slightly tipsy writer, will attempt to enlighten you on some of the major developments in the world of movies, television and other stuff that we associate with
First and foremost, we all knew that the World War Z sequel would be coming. Regardless of the fact that the movie had nothing to do with the book, it made a butt load of cash and so the powers-that-be are very much ready to keep going. While we have no hope of petitioning them to change the damn name of the franchise so that people know it is not Max Brooks’ creation, we do have a chance that the second installation may be better than the first. Apparently, director Marc Forster is dropping out for the next flick, citing creative issues between him and Brad Pitt. While no new director has been signed up yet, I can only cross my fingers and pray that it will be someone that wants to make a tense and human-focused zombie flick instead of yet another guy with dreams of zombie ant-piles and inexplicable logic. Cross your fingers, folks.
Next up, not so much a sequel as a hint at a future sequel, it looks like Paul Giamatti’s portrayal of The Rhino in next year’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be reprised for Amazing Spider-Man 3. And while I am personally not a huge fan of the new Spider-Man reboot, I do love the Rhino as one of the classic characters of this Marvel property. And, of course, Giamatti is just awesome in everything he does. This also sets up the potential for a Sinister Six story arc, another classic in Spider-Man mythology. Spider-Man versus six powerful villains all at once? Hell yeah, sign me up!
Thirdly, some more recycling that probably doesn’t need to be done. The Scream franchise has partnered with MTV to create a television show based off of Ghostface and his wacky, teenager-killing antics. This time, however, they may be switching it up a bit. Rumors are flying that the new TV show will have Ghostface as an actual ghost, which would be a definite departure from the way the 50 or so movies played out. It’s almost enough to make me watch the series. Ok, maybe not. Really? More Scream? I think the first movie was enough.
And finally, Jennifer Lawrence cuts loose and lets people know what she thinks of the way
As always, check back next week for another look at what
