Happy days for fans of ‘Walking Dead’, ‘50 Shades’, Bond and ‘Harry Potter’

Media Hijinks - Rejoicing All-Around!

11/16/13

First up this week in Media Hijinks, fans of The Walking Dead rejoice!  Or maybe not.  Either way, it looks like we’re going to see a spin-off show in the near future.  There has been some speculation as to what it might entail, most assuming that it would follow the journey of another group of survivors as they made their way through the zombie-infested landscape.  Now, recent rumors/news would suggest that the new show will be a prequel, exploring the early days of the outbreak and how it grew to encompass the entire world.  Well, sounds reasonable to me.  As long as they do it right, of course.

Next up, a piece of news that I don’t even feel like reporting on, but alas, it is industry news and someone should let you all know.  50 Shades of Grey fans can look forward to seeing this porn novel-turned-movie in most of its raunchy glory, for the producers wish to make two versions of the film, one with a milder R rating and another rated at NC-17.  Yup, more nasty and dirty awaits those that feel an R-rated version leaves out the spirit of the book.  What that spirit is, I don’t even want to contemplate.

Third on the list, James Bond junkies may get the chance to see one of their old favorite villains, Blofeld come to the screen to battle Bond once more.  Though Blofeld was an old staple of the franchise, some rights issues tied him up and made the current production company unable to use the character.  Now, however, it looks like they have reacquired those rights so Blofeld (along with the villainous organization known as SPECTRE) is back on the table.  Personally, I’d love to see him come back, but they’ll need to find an actor that can pull it off as well as Donald Pleasance did back in the good old days.

And finally, it’s time for Harry Potter fans to pee themselves a little, albeit only a little.  In the wonderful U.S. tradition of creating and selling something functional that people will never use, a set of Harry Potter stamps has been put together and will be hitting post office shelves come November 19th.  The set is 20 stamps and you can buy them in books (of course).  But buyer beware - they’re only making 5 million sets, so you’d better hurry to get yours.  Seriously, HP fans will be buying them by the truckload.

Until next week, don’t eat the yellow snow.  Whatever your older brother tells you, it’s not lemon flavored.
