Media Hijinks - More Super Heroes and SDCC Madness
First up this week, it looks like the folks at Fox may finally be getting off their butts and trying to compete seriously in the super hero movie wars. In addition to revamping Fantastic Four and giving us yet another film in the X-Men series, X-Men: Days of Future Past, they’re looking to other possibilities. They’ll be making their announcement sometime at San Diego Comic Con, but it’s pretty much official that Fox will be putting together both an X-Force film along with a Magneto solo flick. The first film would bring fans some of their favorite characters (finally), such as Cable and Deadpool, but it’s the Magneto film that might really break ground. If they do this, it would be the first villain-centric super film as of yet. The question is, will people line up to see the bad guy, even if he is as ambiguous as Magneto?
Second up, a rumor via the mouth of the new Star Trek franchise’s Spock, Zachary Quinto. Apparently, he has stated that not only is Star Trek III already moving toward a quick production, set to film next year, but also that J.J. Abrams is onboard to direct it. Considering his obligation to help restart the Star Wars franchise with Episode VII, this could be quite the task for Abrams, albeit not a completely impossible one. We’ll probably have to wait and see how this one develops before we know whether Quinto was just being hopeful about the whole thing.
And finally, the big news of the weekend, San Diego Comic Con. SDCC is a the news-maker when it comes to town, bringing all the popular franchises and projects to one place and then charging people their first born child to see them. And though it’s only the second day of the convention, a few interesting things have popped up that I thought I’d share.
Item A - Some lucky bastards as SDCC got to watch the entire pilot episode for the new Marvel TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And, if they can be believed, it’s pretty damn good. Of course, what else do you expect when Joss Whedon is involved? You can head to ComicBookMovie to see the Tweets that are flying around and get a glimpse of exactly what they had to say.
Item B - The world premiere of The Walking Dead season 4 trailer! And while last season had its ups-and-downs as far as story development went, even this four-plus minutes of the new season looks like we could be seeing something new and interesting. Check it out below.
