Even more movies-to-TV coming, ‘Sherlock’ finally gets an air date and ‘Fast & Furious’ loses a star

Media Hijinks - Adaptations, Announcements and Tragedy

11/30/13

First up this week in Media Hijinks, the big wallets in Hollywood are looking to grow their bank accounts even further by making a to-do list of movie properties that they can pillage and turn into television shows.  Some of their ideas look good, some are fairly intriguing and others are just plain horrifying.  It all really depends on what camp you’re in regarding continuing stories that have already been told.

The big one is Sin City.  With a second film coming out in the near future, they wish to take Frank Miller’s stories and put them on the small screen.  While it would work well in serialized format given the way the comics were written, they have no plans to bring Miller onboard to help them out, which sounds like a complete disaster.  Another big one is Stephen King’s The Mist.  This one could be interesting if done right, though it’s more likely to end up being one of the most boring things ever.  Not a lot to look at with The Mist, being that it’s more of a psychological horror flick than anything else.  Another one that they’re looking at doing that I wouldn’t mind seeing is a project called Stan and Ollie.  This one would focus on the lives of the two famous comedians near the end of their careers.  Depending on who they got to play the titular roles, it could turn out pretty good.

Still, they’re all just being proposed right now, so there’s no knowing what will eventually become of the various projects until they’re actually in development.  So until then we wait.  We wait and pray that those in charge are concerned with more than just putting more money in their pockets.

Next up, a small announcement, but one that will make Sherlock fans very happy - the actually have an air date planned for season 3!  The show will be hitting the BBC airwaves on New Year’s Day.  U.S. watchers, however, will have to wait a bit longer, as it won’t be showing up over here until January 19th.  Of course, if you know how to use a torrent, you won’t really have to worry about this stupid split-air-dates habit of the BBC, as you can just DL it a few minutes after it finishes showing in the UK.

And finally, a tragic bit of news that most have probably already heard by now.  Fast and Furious franchise staple Paul Walker has died.  I can’t pretend that I ever enjoyed the films, but when you look at what Walker did with his regular life, including being a proponent for several charities, you realize that the world lost a decent human being rather than just another actor.  Like his work or not, it’s a bummer to see one of the good ones go.

Until next week, May the Force Be with You.  Or at least be with you enough to help alleviate those pesky hangovers.
