A night of good, slimy fun!

The 2013 Kids' Choice Awards are in the books

The 28th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards are history, and once again, the show proved to be refreshing and entertaining, if you are a 10-year-old. For the adults, well, we tolerate it for the children's sake, right? I had my two young cousins with me over the weekend, so instead of catching up on my Netflix queue, I caved and let them take over my television on Saturday night. I'm glad I did.

If you are a parent, you're probably very familiar with the Kids' Choice Awards, or KCAs as these young whipper snappers like to call it. I knew about the green slime dumping that regularly happens during the show, but that's about it. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised: The KCAs were actually really entertaining. Not only that, but I knew some of the winners! Maybe I'm not as old as I feel, after all.

The biggest winners of the night were, without a doubt, Kristen Stewart and Johnny Depp. Stewart won Favorite Movie Actress for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, beating out the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens and Scarlett Johansson. Stewart also won the, and let me make sure I say this right, Favorite Female Buttkicker award. Personally I'd go with Jennifer Lawrence or Anne Hathaway for that award, but I'm not the target audience.

Johnny Depp bested Will Smith, Zachary Gordon and Andrew Garfield to take home his beloved orange blimp for Favorite Movie Actor for Dark Shadows. I was nearly as excited as my young cousin to see Depp take the stage. Johnny Depp: Bridging the generation gap!

You can see a full list of all the Kids' Choice Awards winners on the official Nickelodeon website, by the way.

So, to summarize: This past weekend, I learned that some of these shows aimed solely at kids are not nearly as dull as many of our adult awards shows (maybe adding some green slime could add new life to the Academy Awards). I also learned that Josh Duhamel is a truly charming awards show host. Oh, and my faith was restored, because this younger generation loves Johnny Depp as much as I did growing up.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to see a movie for grown-ups, Olympus Has Fallen. I figure that will help balance things out a bit (and yes, a full review will be forthcoming).

Did anyone else watch the 2013 Kids' Choice Awards? Am I all alone in my belief that the show was really fun?
