New Year's Eve crafts for kids, from best to worst
Every holiday carries with it a string of crafts for kids, and New Year's Eve is no exception. Even though a lot of kids can't (or won't) be able to stay up until midnight, every kid likes to feel like they are part of the worldwide party. By making so much annoying noise that you want to kill yourself.
Confetti eggs: A+
These have all the fun of dyeing eggs at Easter, plus the promise of making a big, annoying mess. What's not to like?
I mean, assuming you are the kid who gets to make them. If you are the supervising adult, there is a LOT not to like, including having to clean up confetti everywhere, and the prospect of eggs being smashed in inappropriate places (on a pet, on the couch, on a sibling's head, etc.)
Party hats: B-
Party hats are the kind of thing that seem like a lot of fun when you're making them, but aren't nearly as fun to wear as you imagined they would be. The string always cuts into your neck, and there is usually some part of the hat jabbing you in a weird place, and/or it gets sweaty after five minutes.
Paper plates filled with beans: C+
This craft is easy, and it's fun to decorate the outside of the plates with markers, crayons, and of course, glitter. But when you get right down to it, this is basically just a low-rent tambourine. It doesn't really make a lot of decent noise, it just, you know… rattles.
Homemade party blowers: F
If it doesn't have a kazoo-like noisemaker inside it, it's just stupid. Plus, Martha Stewart's party blowers may be beautiful works of art, but you know darn well yours won't turn out as nice.
