Get crafty with these relics from the past. Last weekend I went through a bunch of old boxes on a mad decluttering spree. One thing I found was my stash of old floppy disks. Even if they are still readable (which I doubt) I have no way to read them, and there's nothing on them I want to save.
But what to do with these cute little wedges of useless plastic? Crafting to the rescue!
1. Planters
Five floppy disks can be glued together to create adorable little planters. These would be particularly great for your desk at work. (I recommend succulents or African violets, both of which should stay a manageable size.)
2. Pencil holder/desk organizer
You don't even need glue for this craft. You can assemble them into a little box using just fishing line. This would be a good addition to your planters as desk decorations!
3. Make your own Starship Enterprise
The ship design isn't canon, although it's clearly referencing the Enterprise from the original series. But the clever bit is that you can make an entire starship just using the bits you find inside a floppy disk. All you need is scissors to cut some of the pieces, plus a paperclip to use as a stand. You can probably make one right now with the things you have at your desk!
4. Secret storage area
Does your job require you to use a crazy password that you will never remember? Write it on a scrap of paper then hide it inside a floppy disk. No one will ever think to look there!
5. Make an ironic and/or retro laptop bag
This bag design has won contests and been featured in museums. It's a big project, but the creator has detailed instructions available online. And won't you be the star of the coffee shop when you walk in toting your laptop in one of these babies?
