This weekend I ran across a fabulous new (to me) product: iPhone cases that you can customize with cross stitch. The case I bought is part of a kit from Coats and Clark which includes a black case (made of a rubbery material which feels similar to neoprene) to fit the iPhone 4/4S plus four patterns, an embroidery needle, and six bobbins of colored floss.
The four patterns are a cupcake, the Eiffel Tower, lace, and plaid. Luckily you are not limited to those four patterns - not by a long shot!
A quick Etsy search for "iPhone case cross stitch pattern" produces dozens of results. You can also search for "iPhone cross stitch" to see examples of completed cross stitch cases, if you want inspiration. (I am particularly smitten by this Pac Man case!)
(Note: I also found the iPhone cross stitch kits for sale. I will note that I paid only $5.97 for my kit at Walmart, and I didn't have to pay shipping. If you are thinking of buying one of these kits, check your local Walmart first. Some of the people reselling the kits online have marked up the price significantly!)
It's also easy to make your own iPhone case cross stitch pattern. In fact, the Coats and Clark kit includes two blank cross stitch charts for you to use. I recommend that you photocopy these before you begin, so that you can have a fresh copy if you need one.
The iPhone case is 23 x 46 squares if you want to use regular graph paper. (Be sure to account for the divot over the camera.) You can graph out a lot of lovely patterns in this amount of space. If you want help creating your chart, check out this great online tool which converts images to cross stitch charts.
