Weekly freebies: Something for everyone

This week's freebies are a little late. I've spent the better part of the week out of town, spending a little more money than I anticipated I would need to. Isn't that always the case when traveling? Thankfully, these freebies can help you shave a few dollars off of your expenses this week. Here are some of my favorites, by category.

eBooks for kids

Noah's Petting Zoo – Bedtime Story for Kids: This bedtime story is about a house named Noah (yes, a house). It is an old house, and the folks in the neighborhood want to tear it down in order to put up a new building. Andrew wants to save the house, so he turns it into a petting zoo. It's an excellent story teaching children to be passionate about their causes. It features rhyming text and is appropriate for children ages 3-8. This book is free through April 22nd. If you miss the window to get it free, it's still a wonderful story worth paying for (and it's self-published by a young author).

Maggie Mouse Gets Lost: This sweet picture book is great for kids under three. It features cute rhymes paired with colorful pictures. In the story, Maggie gets lost in the prairie. This story helps you teach your child what to do if he or she becomes lost in a non-scary way. It is free through April 22nd.

Nonfiction eBooks

Tech Etiquette: OMG: Ever wonder if you're committing an electronic faux pas? This book is aimed at teaching you how to behave in the online social environment. From posting inappropriate pictures to texting to tweeting, this book helps you improve your communication skills and avoid embarrassing mistakes. It is free through April 21.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide: I know several folks who suffer from CFS, and getting treatment isn't always easy. This book serves as an encyclopedia about the disease, covering topics from the causes of CFS to current therapies. It includes approaches to traditional medicine and alternative medicine.

Free food

Stevi B's, located in several states, is giving away a free Greek Thin Crust pizza on April 28 in honor of their annual free pizza day. You can visit their Facebook page, "like" them and print your voucher for a free pizza.

Saving Dollars & Sense reports that Mio Energy in Black Cherry will be given away at 7-Eleven stores on Tuesday, April 23. MiO is a water flavoring agent to enhance the taste of your water and give it a jolt of energy. Call ahead to see if your local 7-Eleven is participating. The offer is only available while supplies last.

Miscellaneous

Get a free Schick Hydro Silk Razor by texting SCHICK to 24444. You'll immediately be sent a link where you'll be asked for your name, email address and mailing address. You'll then be asked to confirm that you're 18 and you agree to the usual privacy policy, etc. After completing these steps, you'll receive a message that your sample order has been placed, and you'll receive it in six to eight weeks.

Honk Suppressor: Do you know someone with a honking problem? Do you feel like you'll go crazy if you hear one more beep while traveling? Are you a honkaholic yourself? Try the 76 Honk Suppressor. Stick this thing on your dashboard and hit it whenever you feel like honking. You'll get the satisfaction of slapping something, but the noise is a mild squeak rather than an obnoxious honk. In all seriousness, though, it will make a great addition to a kid's toy. It's only available in California, Oregon and Washington.

Earth Day freebies

Pottery Barn is giving away a free packet of seeds for kids to plant in honor of Earth Day. The seeds are available, while supplies last, from April 20 – 22. Their goal is to plant 50,000 trees. What's better than helping the earth for free?

Disney Store is giving away a reusable shopping bag (Brave or Cars 2 theme) if you bring in and recycle five plastic bags. Their giveaway is on Monday, April 22, while supplies last. The offer is not available in Disney Baby stores.
