RIP Google Reader

As of today, Google's RSS reader is officially dead. This is a difficult loss for a lot of people. RSS hasn't caught on the way that it should, but for those of us who use it, it's indispensible. 

I like many people only started using Google Reader after Bloglines announced that it was shutting down. Bloglines took it back and kept the doors open, but by that time I had already switched to Reader. But the message is clear: it's impossible for a company to monetize a cloud-based RSS reader, so they are probably all doomed eventually.

Until then, I have been using Feedly. I tried TheOldReader and liked it, but I have had a lot of trouble accessing it in the last few weeks.
