What’s Happening Wednesday: Nurturing Yourself

Dr Laura says that it’s our job to be our own parents, too—and she gives this advice on nurturing yourself simultaneously as you nurture your children.

Want to see how homeschoolers measure up nationally against public schoolers? Personally, I could care less—BUT stats like these are helpful when you want relatives to stop telling you to put your kids in school.

We have less than 1,000 Saturdays with our kids from the time they are born to the time they (traditionally) go to college! What will you do with yours?

Did you know that it’s really, really easy to track your photos online and find out where you are if you post them using a smartphone? Please watch this video and watch your phone settings.

We need to keep in mind that when our children “misbehave,” they are acting out of frustration from not having their needs met. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to punish them. Here’s a thoughtful case against the time-out that is a must-read. It also gives great advice on dealing with “misbehavior” and raising a self-disciplined child.

Not only do these anti-suffragette cartoons remind us to be grateful for all we have fought for and to never go back—they also help us show our children what life used to be like before courageous people stood up for what they believed in.

This 12-step program for creating your own authentic life is lovely. I love “Defy genetics” and “Take the risk already.”

Here’s a great thought to remember—and question to ponder—about assertiveness.

Have you read “The Day I Stopped Saying Hurry Up”? I think it will really hit home with lots of people. Even though I try not to say this phrase, it still happens once in a while. Wood Sprite gives me such a weird look when I say it, too—like, “Um, why, exactly?”
