What’s Happening Wednesday: Link between child asthma, BPA

Stories like this one make me shake my head when people say things like, “Well, my parents did it and it was good enough for me!” This is usually in regards to watching television or “crying it out” or even spanking. The same thing was said about parents who let kids sleep on their stomach before we knew about SIDS, or parents who let their kids go to bed with a bottle before we learned about tooth decay. This link established between childhood asthma and BPA is just another piece of proof that BPA is no good and shouldn’t be used in any products coming into contact with children.

In positive news, check out these female superheroes in their fully-clothed awesomeness! It really helps put into perspective how they always look without so many clothes on. I am a huge comic fan and draw everyone from Betsy Braddock to Wolfsbane, and while part of me enjoys drawing the contours of the female body, part of me also would rather see them in better crime-fighting outfits. I’ve drawn heroes with both more clothes and more proportionate body parts and really appreciate the work of other fans who do, too.

Another big piece of news this week is a huge juxtaposition between the United States and France regarding female healthcare. Missouri’s GOP just approved a bill to let pharmacies determine whether or not they carry birth control drugs for women—this is my state, folks—while France just decided to cover all abortions as well as other contraceptives for women. Those of us who rely on birth control for life-saving measures just got safer abroad. When are they going to make the 100 percent effective, reversible male birth control shot available in our country, already? That would be perfect for my family, and I’m sure it would be for a lot of other families, too.
