What’s Happening Wed: Blog Carnival at Homeschool Atheist Momma

Today at Homeschool Atheist Momma, there is a huge blog carnival going on. There is something about everything, from parent perspectives to learning ideas and so much more. There’s a lot of reading so be sure to bookmark the website. I’ve been corresponding with Karen, who writes the blog, and I was so pleased to learn that she actually lives nearby! I cannot wait to meet her and her family soon.

Pat Farenga reports on homeschooling gains and losses this year. There are some really interesting reads—some sad, some cool—and homeschooling continues to grow at an exponential rate.

Parenting From Scratch shares how you must be vulnerable with your children to connect with them. This one made me tear up a little—but I’ve been both ill and emotional this week, so bear with me.

This survivalism stuff is really becoming popular. I am wondering if a lot of it is coming from so many dystopian books we have out right now—or simply from fear and uncertainty. I like the idea of being prepared for an emergency and I LOVE the idea of learning how to do everything ourselves like our ancestors did just because we should know how, but I don’t like the whole fear-based alarmist message. At any rate, this post about a year to self-reliance from Essential Survival seems practical to me in many ways. I think I will start preparing for an emergency—especially with the water gallons and such, since it’s so easy—this weekend. We live in Tornado Alley as well as the New Madrid fault line, so it’s kind of stupid of me to not have these in place already.
