Plus Ashton Kutcher’s speech, a new mammal in the Americas and more

What’s Happening: New links to autism

The latest link to autism may surprise you: researchers have discovered that children born due to induced labor have a higher chance at being autistic. This American study only shows a slight link, however, so I’m sure more work needs to be done.

There’s a new mammal species in the Americas, the first carnivorous find in 35 years! The olinguito is a member of the raccoon family and it’s pretty cute.

Did you know that having siblings decreases your chance of getting a divorce in life?

Have you watched Ashton Kutcher’s speech at the Kids’ Choice Awards? I think some points were nice enough, with him telling kids to not listen to the “crap” about what it means to be sexy as society defines it, but a lot of what he said also sounded like entitlement. It’s one thing to praise the value of hard work, but it’s another to imply that “sweeping Cheerios” leads to a life of success. There are plenty of Cheerios sweepers who still sweep Cheerios after 30 years, I am sure, along with plenty of other blue collar workers. Anyway, there are a few things that he said that I felt weren’t expressed well but apparently Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh loved his speech.

It turns out that teenagers who get into trouble and break the rules are more likely to become successful entrepreneurs, which really makes perfect sense. Isn’t a willingness to follow your own rules and take risks to make your dreams happen the sign of a good entrepreneur?
