Plus homemade condiments and pretty salads

Weekly recipes: Pot pies

My aunt absolutely loves pot pies. When we lived together, she used to always add them to the shopping list. I haven’t had one in a long time, but the thought of a homemade pot pie makes my mouth absolutely water! Here’s a recipe for homemade frozen pot pies from Fabulously Frugal that you can assemble, freeze and cook whenever you need a quick meal. I love it because it uses leftovers and provides you with a fast meal without fast food. Plus, it just sounds delicious.

If you enjoy kale and lemon, you need to check out the lemony kale salad recipe over at A Beautiful Mess this week. I think even if I didn’t like the two ingredients (and I do), I would still check it out because their salads always look so beautiful and mine just don’t! I need a course in salad plating. Anyway, this recipe includes yummy goodness like poppy seeds, almonds and Parmesan cheese, so you know it’s going to be a winner. Of course, you can always nix anything you don’t want to include—and it’s always a good idea to nix poppy seeds before a drug test!

They also have a recipe up this week for making your own mayonnaise. As funny as it sounds for those of you who’ve never had homemade condiments, they actually taste so much better! The semi-homemade ranch that I make is incredibly better than regular ranch, and when my family made homemade butter it was the creamiest thing we’ve ever had. And we buy real butter!
