Weekly Medley: Sensory nature walks
Use the Handbook of Nature Discovery for a senses nature walk sometime this week. We always think of these as spring and summer activities, but they can be just as much fun in the fall and winter.
Try making some filled ornaments this year for a different look on your tree, or give a few away as gifts. This is a really cool way to preserve something like tiny shells or sand from your vacation this year.
Finally, a ban on antibacterial soap! After countless studies showing that it does not offer more protection than regular soap—and gross overuse of antibiotics to begin with—we may see it banned yet. But with so much antibacterial overuse and superbugs forming, it may also be too late.
Apparently law enforcement is trying to make it easier to catch criminals by granting search warrants for crimes that could potentially be committed in the future. This opens a whole wonderland of doors for civil rights violations. A single judge in Texas made this ruling so hopefully a higher court will rule it unconstitutional before it’s used all over the country for nefarious purposes.
If you hear ringing in your ears all the time, you might want to watch out for hackers. Or even if you don’t hear it.
Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson made some appalling comments about the GLBT community this week and it looks like he’s being suspended from the show while conservatives are calling him some kind of hero. Seriously, this is the face of your hero? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: hate is not a family value. Love is.
Hopefully none of you have ever walked off a pier because you were checking your Facebook status.
