Weekly Fun: DIY Steampunk clothes

12/14/13

Make a steampunk hat out of duct tape! What a cool idea. I bet you could issue a challenge in your family to see who can make even more DIY duct tape clothing. Make it a contest and let the winner choose dessert, or when you’re finished dress up and do something in your costumes. As cold as it is, be sure to add layers!

Enjoy some gingerbread science with the family this weekend! We usually skip real gingerbread and use graham crackers for projects but this might be fun to learn about.

Use your used gift bags to make festive mailing envelopes. Don’t forget that you can mail anything as long as you have enough postage on it, so have a family challenge to see who can come up with the wildest thing to mail without wrapping! Mail someone a toilet paper tube, a basketball… The sky is the limit.

Speaking of challenges, my mom and her family used to have an annual holiday tradition to see who could wrap their gifts in the weirdest containers when she was a kid. The coolest one was when my aunt received a ring concealed in the top of a soda bottle! How creative can you get with wrapping? Last year, Wood Sprite’s pygmy puff came in an oatmeal box and boy was she mad when she thought that she got oatmeal for Christmas!

And if you need some ideas for the actual wrapping paper, check out these 10 cool ideas from Dollar Store Crafts.

Make some of these adorable reindeer out of peanuts and clay! I am thinking about making a couple of these for Wood Sprite’s stocking; I always try to give at least one thing that is homemade every year.
