“To Train Up a Child” is pure garbage
I don’t recommend this story because it’s so disgusting and horrible, but I do want to let you know that another child was murdered while using the abusive child training manual, “To Train Up a Child,” on their adopted daughter. This book has over 600,000 copies in print and who knows how many parents following its delusional, homicidal advice like withholding food, whipping kids severely with tubing (because it leaves fewer marks), putting kids out in the cold and giving them cold baths, and other stuff you’d think was from a bad movie about serial killers, not real life parenting.
These parents are not “radicals” who misconstrue the book’s teachings; they are people who follow its advice thoroughly. And this book is sent to families for free from Michael and Debi Pearl, its authors, who claim that by hitting a crawling baby from leaving a blanket, you can teach the baby to stay on the blanket. They recommend hitting a child as young as six months of age as a form of “discipline,” and wearing tubing around your neck as a daily visual reminder to stay in line. This stuff sounds like it’s from a CIA torture manual, but it’s actually the way many parents are “raising” their children. My stomach is rolling hard from just reading about it.
I’m all for free speech, but damn do I wish there was a way to wipe this book out of existence. This couple makes millions of dollars through their ministry, too. There are a few things you can do to protest their “methods” at the link, so please check them out and consider doing so.
