On Sunday, my family had a very rare day during which we had absolutely no plans. We had a few things jotted down that we might do, but nothing set in stone. After sleeping in and having brunch, we decided to see a movie at the dollar show.
Our local dollar show isn’t really a dollar; I don’t think there are many left that are that cheap! But it is just $3 for kids and $4 for adults before 6PM, so it’s much cheaper than seeing a show when it first comes out at one of the bigger theaters. Even with that in mind, we are all three regretting the $11 we spent on The Nut Job.
I have no idea how they got so many celebrities involved in this poor production. There’s almost no plot, and the main characters have no redeeming qualities. I did not laugh once; I think Wood Sprite did once or twice. Indy and I kept rolling our eyes over her head at the movie. Around the middle of the film, Sprite whispers to me, “Can we leave now?” She has never done that at the theater! And she repeated the request a few times. It really was a train wreck.
I really wish that we’d read the reviews, because we would have seen that with an 11% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, it wasn’t really worth our time. Just because it was a cartoon, we might’ve still rented it on Redbox, but we definitely would’ve skipped it in the theater.
Come on, movie makers, I know you can do better than this. I’ve seen some great stuff from you! Raise your standards a bit for your children’s movies.
