Tasty Tuesday: Alton Brown’s eggnog
Want to learn about the history of eggnog, and then make Alton Brown’s own recipe for some holiday cheer? Click here. Indy and I were not big Alton Brown fans in the past but he has grown on us over the years and I really like his quirky explanations of history and culture. I wish I liked eggnog but we aren’t big fans of it, either; nevertheless, I have many family members who love it and I may make some just for them this year.
This Cajun chicken stuffed with pepper jack cheese looks absolutely amazing. We are huge pepper jack cheese fans and anything spicy is welcome in our house! (Well, maybe not ghost peppers…) Not only would this be a really warming meal during the fall and winter months; it would also be a good sinus-clearer when you’re having nasal issues.
And if you’re really looking for something spicy and warm, how about these Mini Pepper Nachos with black beans, avocado and corn? I love spicy black beans in anything, and I bet even with the cool avocado this is still still an eye-opening recipe.
I have heard of fry bread but I have never tried it. This recipe for outdoor cooking fry bread looks interesting, if lengthy; does anyone have experience with this food?
One of my favorite holiday foods is finger foods. I love having little sandwiches, pickle spears, diced veggies and other foods you can walk around and mingle with. My mom always makes sure there are pretzels, dips, cut carrots and radishes and other goodies. Sometimes she even makes one of her awesome cheese balls. There are so many other cheesy appetizers to try, too, like, pretzel-crusted fried cheese, cheese-stuffed dates with prosciutto and Manchego with honey brown butter sauce. Yum!
