Take Action Tuesday: Student Loan Fairness
Even if you are out of debt or your kids are young, chances are your children may face college debt someday. The Student Loan Fairness Act does not endorse full loan forgiveness, but does create logical, low interest loan rates and a wide variety of options for college students and graduates. Take a look at the act at the link and if you agree with it, sign on as a supporter.
To me, this one is a no-brainer: Our cosmetics are barely regulated at all, allowing ingredients like formaldehyde, parabens and even lead to be in the stuff we put on our bodies. Not only do we have a right to know whether or not these ingredients are present—we also deserve to be protected from them. Dozens of other countries protect their citizens from poisons like these; why doesn't America? Sign here to support safe cosmetics.
Veto the Monsanto Act. You probably already know all about the Monsanto Act that just passed, and whether or not you support genetically engineered foods—personally, I think they should be labeled at minimum, outlawed at maximum as several other nations have done—you may agree that no corporation should hold this much power in our country. Please visit the link to learn more and call the president if you agree.
Today is Equal Pay Day, so be sure to write the president about equal pay for all.
Be skeptical of pharmaceutical companies’ claims—this is normally an article I’d include for What’s Happening Wednesday, but I think one of the best actions we can take as parents is to be wary of drugs when it comes to ourselves and our children. If they’re truly needed, of course they should be used—but we over-diagnose so much in this country, and Dr. Peter Breggin is a clear voice of reason in terms of medicating children. I wholly recommend following his posts.
Ask Facebook to include child abuse in their reporting options and their violations of use. They include harmful posts about race, but not about child abuse—or gender, for that matter.
