Yesterday I shared a post featuring a bunch of life hacks, or little tricks people use to make things easier or just better. For example, use toilet paper rolls to store wound-up cords, or add soda tabs to hangers to get extra hanger space. And if those weren’t enough, here are 50 life hacks to simplify your world, 40 life hacks to change your life and the actual LifeHacker website.
I thought I’d open up a post where we could all share our own life hacks. We all have our own little tips and alternative uses for things, so why not swap them? Here are just a few of mine.
- Store something you don’t want to share in an empty DVD case among the DVDs. We hide ice cream truck money in one!
- Attach a coin purse to your keys so you’ll always have bus fare, change for a drink at work or money to pay a library fine.
- Use a credit card or something similar to scrape out bee stings.
- Use an all-in-one bag with dividers to carry your swim gear, snacks, books and everything else you need all summer. My new backpack even has a place for my phone and laptop—though I don’t take the latter to park days!
- Use empty 12-pack soda boxes to store things in small spaces. I used mine to hold my socks and underclothes in college, since my big wardrobe didn’t have drawers in it.
- Take a photo of your child’s achievement to display his or her ribbons and awards. Hang the award from the photo for a prettier, more personal display—or put them together in a shadowbox.
- I’ve written about this one before, but save kids’ restaurant cups to use for anything at home—from extra cups to paint containers to starter seed holders.
