New Year’s Resolutions

12/28/13

Last year, I made a resolution per month for 2013: take a photo every day, face a fear every day, that sort of thing. I even scheduled every. Single. One. I’m not kidding! As a result, I had a very interesting year. Our year was dotted with so many tragedies, however, that it didn’t always work out—and that’s okay. I tried a lot of new things this year (I found out that I don’t like pho soup; sorry, M! Maybe it’s better without the cilantro?), I let go of everything from saying “Yes!” automatically to everyone to letting people walk on me (well, I’m not quite there, but I’ve definitely grown some cajones) and I still see lots of room for improvement.

So in 2014, I’m going to make my health much more of a priority. I’m setting 12 health goals, one for each month. I am also taking stock in my mental health, enrolling in a class or two and setting more time aside for journaling. My journal is the barest it’s been in years because I took on so many responsibilities this year. Luckily I had a summer full of work, which was great—but I also did not journal (or get off my duff!) much. I want 2014 to be the year that I do both of these things.

We are walking every day again already and I want to continue doing that, too. Today was so nice that we walked around the lake at the park for a change and it was so lovely! Stopping to pet dogs was probably the most fun I’ve had there (Wood Sprite asks every single person if we can pet their dogs!). I have also been eating better, making green smoothies and cutting down on my salt, and I want to continue that. As long as I don’t make it into a big deal (“I need to cut calories! I need to count them, too! How much do I weigh?”) and just listen to my body, I seem to do pretty well.
