New children’s DVDs
Indy always says that at least two kids’ movies should be released every month, and I’m inclined to agree with him. It’s not necessarily because I think there should be a million children’s films available at all times, but because as parents we want to go to the movies, too! It’s a pretty selfish request, but I think at the same time studios would make tons of money just by doing it.
There are a few family DVDs out right now if you are interested in renting them. None are spectacular, but at least one was funny (Wood Sprite loved it).
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters: This one did not live up to the book, just as its predecessor bombed with book fans a couple of years ago. As a fan of the books I can tell you that its characters are much richer, insightful and funny. Try reading it aloud as a family; we are really enjoying it ourselves.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2: Yes, it’s another sequel, but this one was at least funny. It wasn’t even close to being as funny as the first movie and there was some borderline racist humor with the police officer and cameraman that I did not appreciate, but Wood Sprite really enjoyed the goofy big-eyed fruit.
Free Birds: This one actually comes out next week. It’s a movie we managed to miss in theaters so we’ll have to watch it before I write a review. I love Woody Harrelson, so I’m looking forward to his role at least, but reviews do not sound very promising.
