Plus airport gator, legalizing pot & more

Monday Medley: Letters from Santa

Do you do letters from Santa for your children? We write ours and send it to our local recreation center with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and they send us back a really nice letter each year. However, when I heard about Letters from Santa that benefits families with premature babies in the NICU, I decided that I wanted to do that instead this year. Check it out and donate if you can; your $7 helps families going through hell and gets your child a personalized letter.

We may all want to learn how to grow crops at warmer temperatures; scientists are reporting that we could see an up to 2% decline in food production per decade due to climate change.

Did you hear about the alligator found at O’Hare Airport? It sounds like the poor thing suffered much more than any people who came across it. I’m glad officials are treating him nicely and finding a home for him, but I’d really like to see people stop buying alligators as pets because of abandonment stories like this one.

Gallup reports that for the first time, the majority of Americans are in favor of legalizing marijuana—but come on, it can’t be the first time. Not only are stoners not likely to be surveyed (I kid!), but marijuana was, in fact, perfectly legal less than 100 years ago.

A psychologist is saying that schools treat boys like defective girls, and I must agree. The perfect student is a well-behaved, quiet girl who does what she is told and strives to please everyone. This is also the formula for one of the most unhappy people in the world—perhaps the new feminine mystique.
