Monday Medley: Eat your cucumbers for good health
Did you know that cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day? And here I thought they were just water! I love cucumbers so this is great news to me. Now to get Wood Sprite on board somehow… She’s not a fan!
Check out these real life “flying” dragons in Indonesia! Wood Sprite got a kick out of them.
Here are some really dangerous warnings regarding the whole “Babywise” method. I’m not very familiar with it. I think I checked out a book at the library once but didn’t get around to reading it (honestly, I didn’t read many books period until WS was about three). The AAP says it causes dehydration, slow growth, stress, colic and other awful results. It’s supposed to be about scheduled feedings, crying –it-out methods and other things that I don’t support anyway.
This article from Little Hearts, Gentle Parenting about how “backtalk” is a form of communication is such a good read. It’s an issue in my house right now and we’re struggling for some balance. I’m hoping I can read it out loud with Indy today and we can discuss it.
Wow, is this story beautiful. It’s about a devoted dad who falls asleep in front of the TV every night for a good reason. I cried watching it.
People are boycotting the Ender’s Game film already (before its release) because Orson Scott Card is apparently extremely homophobic—and he’s actually asking people to tolerate his intolerance! He’s very vocal about it and makes false accusations (such as molestation leading to being gay in most cases) and it absolutely makes me sick. I don’t think I could see the movie now, even though I really enjoyed the book, just because of this. I understand that others may not find this reason enough to boycott, but it just doesn’t sit well with me. I won’t be reading any more of his books, either.
