Plus some thoughts on climate change, creativity and more shaming of girls

Mid-week Medley: Afro banning at school

Did you hear about the little girl who was sent home from school because afros are “too distracting” at school? This is just unbelievable. I hope this school is ready for a whole bag of worms because they just opened one. It’s bad enough to police kids’ clothing, supplies and even their potty breaks, but this is pure racism. Little Tiana was crying on the interview. She went to school with the same hairstyle—courtesy of her barber father, who always made her presentable—last year and no one ever gave her trouble.

Here are 12 things about creativity that you were not taught in school. Read it! It’s important! I’m so tired of hearing people say they’re not creative. You were born creative. If you weren’t creative, you wouldn’t be alive, because everything you do takes choice and thought and creativity—from managing your home to having children to even your work spreadsheets. Creativity is NOT a special talent. We are all born to create.

Heard about the climate report? Here are some scary statements that were in it. Yeah, thanks for the continued lack of an energy plan, politicians…

Remember how I talked about not shaming girls earlier in the week? This mom just posted about how her family is blocking teen girls who post photos of themselves braless or in a towel because it’s inappropriate for her teen sons—and in the post, she includes photos of said sons in nothing but swim trunks. This is exactly what I’m talking about, folks.
