When you live in or near St. Louis like we do, there are tons of things to do this weekend—from carnivals to Greek Festival to the Irish Festival to the Renaissance Fair (and so many more!). And I really encourage you to enjoy these activities if you’re in town. If you’re not, however, or if you are but you’d like to do something with a tiny bit more gravitas for the holiday, here are some activity ideas:

Memorial Day activities in Washington, DC—from monuments to concerts to the parade

Activity sheets, coloring pages, book lists and other printables from Apples 4 the Teacher

Various crafts and projects, like star wreaths and windsocks, from Enchanted Learning

Memorial Day recipes, treats, projects and other activities at Pinterest

Easy activities from the Pioneer Woman

Be sure to check your own local area for various Memorial Day events, such as parades and fairs, and to visit any special monuments near you. We have a 9-11 memorial in town that my daughter and I have visited in the past, for example. You might also want to make a donation to your local VFW hall or similar organization. If nothing else, show up with cookies; I’m sure they’ll be appreciated!
