Sometimes I get asked why I make lists so often at Progressive Parenting, Conscious Caregiving. As a list maker to the core, I can tell you that those who know me don’t even ask! From my planner to my novel files, everything I do is in lists and has been since I was a kid. Even my bucket list is pretty darn organized.
But lists are also just fun, don’t you think? When I follow other blogs, it’s the lists that draw me in with their various links, freebies and offers available. I like to skim the links, jot down the different projects that I want to do in my planner or in Wood Sprite’s planner, and get my info quickly. Sometimes I read the longer narrative posts but not nearly as often as I do the lists. For example, here are six resources from Institute for Humane Education about teaching kids about Syria. I am thinking of using these, though if they had been presented any differently I’m not sure that I would have.
Lists are quick and easy to read. They draw your eye in when other content makes you skim—and so many people only skim these days that I don’t want to offer too much of my own thinking when there is so much to share with you. So while I sometimes offer my opinion or a full post about an issue or cool project, I really like to stick to the lists.
What about you? What do you enjoy reading? Would you like to read more narratives—such as our Day in the Life of an Unschooler series? Let me know in the comments.
