Host a penguin party
While I’m dreaming up theme play dates for Wood Sprite this winter, I have to remember to ask her which ones sound fun before I post them on our group website. I always run ideas by her first to see if she is interested. I have nixed other ideas before because she objected. It’s her party and her friends, so it’s fair.
I think she will love the idea of a penguin party. I want to serve black and white treats, like Oreo cookie sundaes, dark and white hot chocolate, and chocolate éclair cake. Then we’ll do penguin crafts, such as…
Origami Penguins. We probably won’t do them on napkins but just origami paper, I think. I’ve done origami classes before with mixed results, so I may or may not keep this idea. I LOVE the cute craft but it is difficult helping so many littles with their valley and mountain folds.
Plastic Penguins. These adorable penguins are actually made from soda bottles! I’ve been collecting soda bottles from friends and family all year for a garden project that I never started (but plan on doing in the spring), so I can just use them for this cool idea. They look so cute and professional; I’m sure parents would welcome kids bringing these crafts home.
Tacky Penguins. I think this idea would be great for littles who won’t be able to make the plastic penguins without help.
What other penguin crafts or activities can you think of? I can think of dozens, but I have to be choosy—and cheap with the materials for group projects!
