Yes, I love Halloween—and yes, I love throwing parties! Or, more accurately, I love any excuse to get kids to come over to play with Wood Sprite. Between so many kids being kept inside doing homework (or, fairly, playing video games) and our neighborhood being filled with retirees, it’s often difficult to have spontaneous play dates without going to the park. When I was little, we used to be able to walk outside for a play date! So I host these theme parties to get the kids together to play.
Monday, I’ll be hosting a boo bash. Basically, it’s going to be a very messy Halloween-themed science play date. We’re having 12 kids over and here’s what we are going to do:
Boo Bombs: We’re filling up eggs with powder and throwing them at each other’s feet. Poor Indy spent all week eating eggs and making egg-themed food so he could hollow out a bunch of eggs for me.
Ghost Soap: We’re microwaving Dial soap in the microwave to make it expand into ghost shapes, then inserting googly eyes.
Goblin Mud: Next we’ll be shaving the soap and mixing it with water and toilet paper in order to make some really messy mud.
Sugar Cookies: I don’t know if I’ll be serving these or allowing the kids to decorate them; we have some toppings left from our 4-H Halloween party but I don’t think we have enough.
And that’s it! My science projects are brilliant but not my own; I’m using ideas from Growing a Jeweled Rose, where you can find absolutely wonderful ideas every day. Wood Sprite had a glow bath like the one that Jeweled Rose has and she just loved it.
