Happy Halloween!

10/31/13

Well, I was off to teach art club this morning. Each month, our homeschool group meets at one of our county libraries to have art club. Normally a parent teaches about a professional artist and his or her technique and then we do a project around that, but this month is Halloween, so we couldn’t pass that up!

Except Wood Sprite is having asthma issues again. On Halloween!

We were going to touch on the history of Samhain and Halloween, then read a book about the Dia de Los Muertos and make skeleton masks. They are quite like the ones here at Scrumdily-Do!

Now, I’m not sure what we’ll do. Our plans were to head home and work on our costumes while we have Tim Burton movies in the background. We were going to stop for lunch in between somewhere or make it at home; you do know that IHOP has a free kids’ scary pancake plate on Halloween, right? Most of the time on our costumes spent on our Halloween makeup, of course. When we did trunk-or-treating after 4-H club last week we had to hurry to throw on our makeup (Indy and I were zombies; Wood Sprite was a dead cowboy), so we really wanted to do it right this time! Now we’re waiting to see how she feels after her treatments. The doctor says she’s okay to trick-or-treat, but not to overdo it.

As the sun fades tonight I hope we can take her trick-or-treating. Sometimes I stay home to hand out candy, but we don’t get many trick-or-treaters on our quiet street. Indy and Wood Sprite hit a bunch of neighborhoods, including ours. Then they come home and we roast hotdogs and marshmallows around a fire, tell fortunes and whoop it up! Unfortunately our fire pit bit the dust so this year we were planning on using a mini grill. It looks like we’ll need to stay inside anyway. Hopefully we’ll have a new fire pit for next year!
