Halloween Favorites: More picture books
Although we’ve read one of these books before, I was pleasantly surprised when all of the Halloween books we reserved at the library for the week were adorable—so adorable, in fact, that Sprite and I decided to draw several pictures of them in our journals. I’ve got four picture books to share, and I’d say they are great for kids of all ages (none are really scary, though there may be some illustrations that frighten small children).
Hush, Baby Ghostling: Andrea Beaty’s sweet book about a little ghost who is afraid of the light and children (as opposed to the dark and—well, ghosts) is one of our new Halloween classics. We check this book out to read every Halloween.
Hush, Little Monster: Denis Markell’s story is such a cute rendition of “Hush, Little Baby.” There are ghosts, zombies, a werewolf and a vampire, but they are all cute, not scary. Like the rest of the books on the list, this one was new to us this year but it’s definitely going to be an annual classic.
Little Goblins Ten: Pamela Jane’s picture book features all the different ghoulish parents and their children. It’s a take on the song “10 Little Ducks Went Out to Play,” only instead of ducks there are goblins, ghosts, witches, dragons and other creatures.
Hoodwinked: Wood Sprite particularly liked Arthur Howard’s book about a witchy little girl and her love of all things spooky because it’s almost like the book was written just for her. The girl wants a creepy, ugly pet but the best pet for her is a big surprise. We really recommend this one, too!
What are you and your children reading this Halloween?
