Get. This. Judge. Fired.
By now, you’ve already read about the Montana judge who let a child rapist off with a month of jail time after the 14-year-old victim committed suicide. As Melissa Harris-Perry points out, his ruling is against the law, so I’m not really sure how it is even legal; the girl was clearly underage and a victim per the law, but the judge held her equally responsible for her own rape. This is yet another example of how rape culture permeates our own justice system.
The judge clearly stated that this girl was troubled but then claimed that she was older than her chronological age when she consented to sex with her teacher, a man in his 50s.
Please read this article, “The Myth of the Teenage Temptress,” if you truly think that a 14-year-old is truly capable of making a decision to have sex with a man in his 50s. Share it with everyone you know, too.
And if you are as disgusted with this judge’s ruling as I am, please sign this petition to have him fired.
I am sick of the laws made to protect people being ignored. This judge said that the man already paid his price because he lost his job and his wife. Really? When a man rapes a 14-year-old, do you really think that’s a sufficient price?
The child was not that lucky. She took her own life, something her mother said was largely to do with the rape itself.
Shame on this rapist and shame on this rape apologist judge who sympathized with a predator instead of a child.
